Yoga classes

Yoga is the practice of a set of postures and exercises of breathing and meditation that aims to bring excellent health of the musculoskeletal apparatus, constant maintenance of the back, lightness and flexibility of the body, better functioning of the respiratory and circulatory systems, and improved mental balance.

This ancient art of living, which we inherited from India, reveals itself as an initiatory path that transcends physical discipline; not being a physical performance like a sport is,, everyone can practice it by listening to his body.

The first references to yoga can be found in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra written about 200 BC. In this work we understand the foundation of the philosophy of yoga and its possible application in all spheres of our life, through 8 elements that allow the union of body, mind and soul (the term Yoga means union).

These 8 elements are:

  • Ethical disciplines of behaviour towards others (Yama)
  • Ethical disciplines of behavior should be adopted towards ourselves (Niyama)
  • The practice of postures (Asana)
  • Breath control (Pranayama)
  • Control of the senses (Pratyahara)
  • Concentration (Dharana)
  • Meditation (Dhyana)
  • Contemplation (Samadhi)

In the Yoga tradition, teaching is acquired from a teacher, who himself has practiced in a serious and continuous way, guided also by his own teacher who has transmitted to him knowledge and experience and who has granted him permission to teach (Parampara) and so on. This is the true and only lineage of Yoga.
From master to disciple.

There are several styles of practicing yoga postures and each focuses on a specific aspect of this discipline.

There are more dynamic approaches in which the sequence of postures is done at the rhythm of breathing such as Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and Vinyasa Flow (modern derivation) and softer styles such as Hatha Yoga where breathing remains the central element of the practice.

The sessions are only to be practiced under the supervision of an expert teacher who will help you not only to unfold the sequence correctly but also to prevent you from getting hurt.
